Let Used Clothes Fill Thrift Stores, Not Landfills |
It is a shame that millions and millions of people each year throw away their used clothes, particularly considering that there are just as many people who could probably have found a use for the not-quite-new clothing items. After all, the increasing size of landfills has been a problem for years now, and particularly in this day and age, many people are trying to do whatever they can to limit the amount of trash that they throw away. Recycling is the greatest way to decrease the amount of items filling up landfills while also helping other people. Recycling has really taken the world by storm and includes everything from paper products and plastic to aluminum cans and fine jewelry. However, it seems that there are still a lot of folks out there who simply do not take the time to recycle another item that can easily be used again by someone else- their used clothes! What makes parting with your used clothes (but not throwing them away) an even better option is that you can even make a little money by selling your used items. If you have trouble selling your clothes because local stores do not buy used clothes, you can also go to used clothing shops that offer trade-in credit. This way, when you find something you like, you can use your store credit to purchase it, which helps you save money and keeps clothes out of landfills and in closets, where they belong. Even if nothing in the store is your style, there are tons of adorable baby and children’s clothes to be found, or even great novelty items, which can help you to make a memorable Halloween costume! Internet auction sites, like eBay, make it even easier (and profitable) to part with used clothes. There is bound to be someone out there who is interested in your stone washed jeans or lime green polo shirt, after all! The best thing about it is, you can often make much more money than you would imagine by selling used clothes online, and you will be helping to decrease our reliance on environmentally dangerous landfills in the process. If you can’t be troubled to auction off your used clothes online or find a used clothing store to sell them to, remember that you can donate your used clothes to thrift stores and other organizations, as well. This way, your clothes can go towards programs that benefit non-profit organizations or even to clothe the homeless and less fortunate. Most of the time, donating clothes to these types of thrift stores or organizations is very simple and can be done in just a minute or two. That way, someone else at least has the option of getting a little more use out of the items. When it comes down to it, there is little sense in simply throwing used clothes away. With all of the ways that you can sell your clothes or easily donate them to charity, it is much better for the environment and other people if you simply find a way to recycle them! |
